For every Christmas season, so many have established a strong love or hate for it. Love – for the things you have money to buy. Hate – for what you could not afford. For some, it’s a season for shopping, furnishing and decorating the house to entertain visitors and receive guests, a time for family get – together and reunion.
These are all good reasons, but Christmas is far beyond all these. It is neither based on what you can afford nor what you could not. We need to be drawn back to understand the ultimate aim and the perfect purpose of Christmas. We have been too over stressed and disillusioned over a wrong or incomplete idea of Christmas season.
Instead of making Christ known and showing the love which He has for us to others and the world, we often get lost in wining and dining, we end up exhausted, chasing something that seems deceptively good, been tempted and seduced to give in to a manufactured idea of Christmas.
Christmas is not about tradition and culture, there was nothing traditional about the birth of Christ, it was a miracle. It is a great thing to celebrate his birth, but we must never get lost into tradition, for this will displease Him. We must point everyone around us to the lamb who has become the saviour and the king of heaven and the earth on a day such as this.
Make the best out of this Christmas season, make today’s Christmas a different one. Choose to stop being busy with many things and focus on being grateful on everything. Gratitude is one of the best ways to take our eyes off ourselves and give the credit back to Jesus our Lord. When appreciation flows from our hearts, it will be impossible to allow these seasonal stress to compete with our love for Jesus.
Christmas is more than a holiday; it is far beyond celebrations or festivities, even though all these are not unnecessary, but it is a moment to re-affirm our Love for Jesus Christ, a season to rededicate and specially present ourselves to Him who was born to take our sins away and that of the whole world
Make up your mind to make this Christmas much more than having a fun, get rid of mediocrity, the empty and vain promises of TV commercials. Place a check on every idol that may want to compete with the place of Jesus in your heart. The awareness of Jesus through you in others will help keep Christmas in its rightful place.
More that jubilation, we need to come to a place of gratitude and deep sense of appreciation, don’t be carried away with the season, Let Jesus be revealed in your lifestyle this season and you will bless the day and the ones ahead.
