One major responsibility of the Holy Spirit in us set us forth into the glorious liberty of the sons of God, His purpose is for him to help us to see who we are and make us conform to the perfect image of the person of Jesus. The job of the comforter is to convict the world of sin and also to reveal what it is in the hearts of men. He exposes us, and what is within us, who we are and what we are. How you use your liberty shows what is in your heart. It reveals whether you have a right or wrong attitude before God. It shows your level of intimacy and maturity.
Your choices and actions reveal who and what you really are. If your heart is really seeking after the things of the Spirit and what God’s Word demands, this will be shown. If there are other priorities within you, this will be exposed too. Total liberty exposes us; it is the Lord Jesus, who has given us such liberty, we won’t really see ourselves more in this light and without such freedom, it is such liberty that brings the work of God into a perfect state in us.
When some believers are brought into a place of authority, they set themselves in to the body of Christ forgetting there is a head over them. Such position reveals the state of their hearts. Many have arrayed themselves in more glory than the master, abusing and misappropriating the structure of the body. This shows us that the Lord has given us the ability to make our choices; even wrong choices will be unhindered. Complete freedom exposes us, it shows where our affections lie and determines how matured our senses are to discern between good and evil.
Anywhere there is liberty, there is danger. There is a danger of people misusing it. Liberty gives us the options to simply please ourselves. It is possible for a believer to abuse God’s precious goodness and purchased possession as a means to satisfy the flesh and to err. Galatians 5: 13 … “For Brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another”. Since we are saved by grace, we should live in it and through it. But grace means we are free from sin and not free to sin.
As an evangelist and a teaching pastor, I have always wanted things to go very smooth and fast for me and the ministry work committed into my hands, but when I fall short in some dealings or the other, It reveals the state where I am and without anybody telling me what to do, I quickly adjust by the help of the Holy Spirit so that this assignment will not be discredited and blamed. What lies in the heart will be revealed in attitudes, words and actions that is why we must endeavor to take heed always, for we are spectacles unto the world, to men and angels.
By giving us complete or perfect liberty, God is testing us. Our total freedom then becomes a sort of litmus paper to reveal what is right or wrong inside the heart. Liberty comes with responsibility, we become answerable to God based on our choices, therefore our destinies may depend on it and we bear the burden of the consequences of whatever choice made by us. When Jesus returns, He will judge us based on what we do with our liberty and those things He has freely given us; and we shall be rewarded accordingly, for the secret things in the heart of men will be revealed.
