The story of a young baby very dear to the parents comes to mind. He was really loved by the parents and the baby knew and understood it. Little John was all – smiles on his fateful day, he had no premonition of what will befall him in a few hours from day break. The parents had dressed him, fed him and got him in a good frame of mind. Shortly after, they headed for the hospital for immunization. John was still all smiles, even while he was sitted on the table supported by parents.
Then the nurse appeared from the rear of an enclosure with a dose. Both parents held him carefully but all the while, John was still aflame with smiles. Then the nurse injected him on his left shoulder. First was a look of surprise, and then a startled expression of loss of confidence. Little John burst into tears and wept. All the plea of the parents could not pacify him. He had been betrayed by his parents and most trusted friends.
But the question is: Was John truly betrayed? Was the sharp pain for his good or hurt? Was it not a true expression of love, affection and a means of making him have perfect health condition? Was it not because the parents cared? Yet, to Little John, it was a betrayal, a demonstration of hatred. Perhaps he felt they were trying to kill him as well.
Does this picture looks like you? Do you feel betrayed by the sudden experiences that have come to try your faith? Please fret and vex not, for it is for your good. If little john knew that the parents were demonstrating great care and love for his life, he would not have carried an expression of disappointment, but his eyes have been covered with the veil of human – illumination and he could not see beyond the moment.
Hebrews 12: 6 [KJV] … “For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth”. The trial of your faith is more precious than of gold that perishes, and it only prepares you for the glory ahead. The stress of today is for the rest of tomorrow. Though His hands seem hard on you today, yet behind his grip is an oasis of compassion and pure affection. The drilling and the training of today is for the victory and the joy of tomorrow, and today’s pains will not last forever, it will only usher in treasures which money cannot buy.
Love the hand that disciplines you, find peace in all things, be happy at what you have and accept what God chooses for you. Fear nothing but to fail God, allow your faults to be revealed, glory in your weakness knowing that Christ will perfect you and fulfill the end of your conversation. Though the darkest moment seems unending, never lose your hope for a day – break of joy. May God grant that you and I to arrive at the state which pleases him most whether through pain or pleasure.
