Anger is a normal human emotion. Anger could be positive or negative; but when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life. There’s nothing wrong in displaying anger when something is not right, but we should not allow such moment of anger set us into sin. Ephesians 4: 26 … Be ye angry, and sin not: Let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil”.
Jesus was angry on some occasions, yet He was not known as an angry person. Further, His anger was not an excuse for sinful actions, but rather for positive actions that helped others and honored God. Anger left unchecked or wrongly motivated can result in long-term unforgiveness that causes problems in a believer’s life.
“Control your anger before it controls you”. Extreme anger is not just a habit, it is a spirit, it is a force that controls its subject. It can make you feel as though you’re at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion and it often sets guilt and inferiority after an action of anger is dangerously displayed. As new born creation in Christ Jesus, Anger has lost its place in us and it is not consistent with our system and nature.
Not only does the Scripture say, “Be angry and do not sin,” … “Be slow to anger, for the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God. Put away anger and malice. Don’t go to bed on your anger. Don’t take it to bed at night. Do whatever you can to lay it down. An angry man is always bitter and is full of vengeance.
Many people struggle with a quick or fiery temper. The Bible calls a person who easily loses his temper a “fool” (Proverbs 29:11; Ecclesiastes 7:9) and describes someone who cannot control himself as a “city with walls broken down”. We may often feel justified in losing our temper, particularly when someone has hurt or offended us. But we are instructed to forgive not yield to anger or seek vengeance.
Meditation of God’s word helps clear your mind. It also makes you become more calm, and aware of things around you. Daily meditation of the Word is recommended and required. Take time to take a walk, paint, play the piano or another musical instrument, see a movie or read a book. These activities will help you relax your mind. The best thing to do at times is to do nothing, just a time of renewal and refreshment all alone is necessary. We need to shut the world out and spend time with ourselves sometimes.
If you know that you are one of those who like to destroy things or throw things around when you are angry, the best way is to walk away from such environment. Anger fuels and multiplies. Especially in marriage or relationship, apologize when you have done nothing wrong or even when you are the offended. It will only show that you are mature and ready to take control of the situation. It will show your love for peace and tranquility. This is a vivid sign that God’s word is working in you and has perfected you. Note – “The wife of an angry man is almost a widow” GRACE TO YOUR HEART!
