The word “forgive” means to wipe the slate clean, to pardon, to cancel a debt. When we wrong someone, we seek their forgiveness in order for the relationship to be restored. Forgiveness is not granted because a person deserves to be forgiven. No one deserves to be forgiven. Forgiveness is an act of love, mercy, and grace. Forgiveness is a decision to not hold something against another person, despite what they have done to you.
You may not be able to forgive and forget, but being able to truly forgive a person for hurting you can put you on the path to feeling better and mending your relationship. If you want to be selfish about it, then you should know that forgiving someone for hurting you has been proven to relieve stress, so you’ll be doing yourself a favor in the process. Forgiveness is divine and it gives you a chance to be a better person.
Ephesians 4: 31 – 32 [NIV]… “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Let go of all of your resentment. If you resent the person and the harm he or she has caused, then you’ll never be able to move on, both in your own life and in building your relationship. Find a way to accept the wrong the person has done and to release the feeling into the air, like letting a bird out of a cage. Forgiveness is always a choice that you can make, and that it’s something that you are capable of if you’re ready.
Forgiving another person is one of best things you can do for yourself. It’s not always easy, and sometimes it will take a long time, but you’ll be glad you did it. Let out whatever emotions you need to, give yourself time to heal, and unload that baggage. You still have a long journey ahead and you don’t need that extra weight. GRACE TO YOUR HEART!
