“Please don’t mess with me; I am the wrong person to mess with. I am a Christian, but I don’t take shit. Why did he use that tone? That’s so rude. If you do not belong in my camp, I have no business with you…” He didn’t call me on my birthday, not even a text message or hello on facebook or a mention on twitter. I’m cutting all ties now, why should I even be loyal to them?” Why should I greet them or make peace with after all they did to me? These responses and many more are a result of offence.
Several church splits, broken relationships, divorces began with little seeds of offense. Many are still carrying the offense and enmity of many years. They have moved on but not with the offenses.
We can have disagreement but not disharmony! Offenses will always happen but we cannot make enemies. It is natural to be defensive and to retaliate when someone acts offensive to you, but being natural isn’t our way. The love walk is more than a command, it is our nature.
Philippians 1: 9 – 10 [KJV] : And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and “without offence” till the day of Christ.
An offense is not an act of sin, but can cause us to sin. Here Paul prays that the Philippian Church be “without offence” i.e. to be faultless. Is it possible to be faultless? Emphatically Yes! If it is not, Paul wouldn’t dare pray such for the believers at Philippi. Believers have been made faultless in Christ that makes it easy for us to be faultless in this world.
The word of God given to us is more than enough to guide, instruct, direct and present us without offence before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.
Subject and submit yourself to the Lordship of the Word, let it gain ascendancy in your spirit man, and see what the Holy Spirit wants you to see, not what you are bent on seeing. Make up your mind that you will do everything the Word tells you to do. Make up your mind that not to follow your senses or peoples’ opinion, but to follow the word and be led by the Spirit always. (Philippians 4: 8) Grace to your heart!
CONFESSION – I am not moved by my feelings or the opinion of men but by the Word of God; I am gentle, loving and compassionate to all. I am blessing to everyone that comes in contact with me. I am conscious of walking in love towards everyone and Jesus is seen and known through me always. I am the epistle everyone sees and reads. Glory to God!
