Philippians 3: 9 [KJV] – And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
There are two kinds of righteousness revealed in the scriptures. There is righteousness that comes by the law; and other one comes by the faith one places in Christ Jesus lordship and his redemptive work. The righteousness of the law is based on one’s adherence to the dictates and the ordinances of the commandments given by Moses. The law was given by Moses to the Jews; the law is good but cannot make any man good; the law is holy but cannot make any man holy; then came Jesus to fulfill the law and to abolish so men can be perfect and righteous.
The righteousness is which comes by faith is credited to man at salvation upon receiving the Lordship of Jesus and trusting his redemptive work; this righteousness is the life, gift and nature of God. Righteousness which is the gift and the nature of God is absolute on the ground of faith and it does not increase or decrease. It is the state of God’s perfection credited into man at salvation. God’s righteousness is received in the gospel by faith, and its effectiveness is determined by the amount of light you keep receiving from the Word.
Paul in the scripture above writes to the saints at Philippi affirming that he would rather count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus than to have confidence in his self-effort or performance and he would choose to live by the righteousness that comes by faith rather than to go back into the bondage of the law. What God has granted us in Christ Jesus is the highest and the most glorious. We must stay rooted, planted and be found in Him always. We will make tremendous progress as we become stronger and skillful in the word of righteousness.
CONFESSION – I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I remain and stand fast in the liberty of Christ. Glory to God!
